Leading Causes of Fertility Challenges in Males and Females

Leading Causes of Fertility Challenges in Males and Females

“Fertility challenges affect millions of couples worldwide, with a wide range of factors contributing to difficulties in conceiving. Understanding these causes is crucial for effective treatment and intervention.
A variety of physical and environmental factors can affect both men and women, as Dr. Aashita Jain, IVF Specialist, Birla Fertility and IVF Surat explains: “Fertility challenges in both men and women can arise from a variety of factors, including hormonal imbalances, lifestyle choices, and age. For women, conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis are prominent contributors, while men may struggle with low sperm count and poor motility. Addressing these causes through proper medical evaluation and lifestyle modifications is essential for improving fertility and enhancing the chances of successful conception.”
For women, common causes of fertility issues include hormonal imbalances, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, and blocked fallopian tubes. Conditions like PCOS and endometriosis can disrupt ovulation and make it challenging for embryos to implant successfully. Additionally, age plays a significant role, as fertility tends to decline with increasing age, particularly after 35.
In men, fertility issues are often linked to low sperm count, poor sperm motility, and structural abnormalities in the reproductive organs. Factors such as hormonal imbalances, genetic conditions, and lifestyle choices like smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and obesity can significantly impact sperm health. Environmental factors and exposure to toxins can also contribute to reduced fertility.
Both genders are affected by lifestyle factors, including poor diet, lack of exercise, and high-stress levels, which can negatively impact reproductive health. Addressing these issues often requires a multifaceted approach, including medical evaluation, lifestyle changes, and sometimes advanced fertility treatments.
By identifying and addressing the leading causes of fertility challenges, individuals and couples can better navigate their path to conception and seek appropriate treatments and support. With increasing advancements in fertility technology and a greater understanding of the factors that influence reproductive health, there is hope for many who face this challenging journey.”
