Shai Hope and Oshane Thomas are recalled as the West Indies announce their T20I squad for India

Shai Hope, the team’s ODI captain, and bowler Oshane Thomas have both been called up to the 15-player West Indies squad for the forthcoming five-match T20I series against India, which begins on August 3.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-106414″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-08-01t180243.950.jpg” alt=”” width=”1491″ height=”992″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-08-01t180243.950.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-download-2023-08-01t180243.950-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1491px) 100vw, 1491px” />

Last year, Hope played in the West Indies’ last match in the format against India. However, the 29-year-old has significantly improved his limited-overs cricket skills since then.

Thomas was selected for the T20Is after being selected for the ODIs, and he played his last T20I in December 2021 against Pakistan.

Shimron Hetmyer, who was disqualified from last year’s T20 World Cup in Australia, and Nicholas Pooran, who just scored an incredible century in the first MLC final, will boost the squad.

“With the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in mind, the team was chosen. As we search for the ideal pairings, we are examining several designs. As we get ready, we’re trying to put together a team that we think will be able to do the task when we host the international event in a little under a year. The chief selector, Desmond Haynes, stated, “We have some match-winners in our lineup and we will want to have the correct type of preparation, beginning here in Trinidad on Thursday.

In the future, he said, “We also have other players who could be taken into account. The Caribbean Premier League is set to begin next month, so others will be taken into consideration.”

Additionally, Rovman Powell’s 15-man side will travel for each of the five games, according to Cricket West Indies. A 13-man group will be selected for each game, and the final XI will be chosen from that group.

The first game will take place on Thursday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. On August 6 and 8, the teams will play their second and third games at the Guyana National Stadium.

The final matches will take place on August 12 and 13 at the Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, in a blockbuster weekend for the series.

Rovman Powell is the captain of the West Indies’ team for the T20 International series against India. Kyle Mayers is the vice captain. Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Obed McCoy, Nicholas Pooran, Romario Shepherd, Odean Smith, and Oshane Thomas are also in the team.
