One offer in particular at the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction caused a lot of controversy on social media. Punjab Kings signed uncapped Indian youngster Shashank Singh for a sum of Rs 20 lakh. However, judging by the actions of Punjab Kings co-owners Ness Wadia and Preity Zinta, there seemed to be some misunderstanding shortly after he was selected in the hurried auction.

Preity Zinta discussed the player with her squad and raised the paddle when Shashank’s name was mentioned. The hammer came down, and the player was immediately sold since no other organization made an offer for him.

Mallik Sagar, an auctioneer, said that there seemed to be some uncertainty, asking whether the name was incorrect. Do you not want the player?” inquired Mallika. We are discussing Shashank Singh. However, the hammer has dropped. Player numbers 236 and 237 were assigned to you. I believe that 237 (Shashank) has also been hit hard,” she said.

Following the event, there was a social media uproar over Punjab Kings’ apparent disinterest in the player they had just purchased. On Wednesday, however, Punjab Kings provided an explanation: “We would want to make it clear that Shashank Singh was always a target of ours. Two players with the same name appearing on the list caused confusion. Having him on board and seeing how he contributes to our success makes us very happy.”

Confusion arose from two players on the IPL roster with identical names. I’m happy to announce that the correct Shashank Singh has joined the team. We’re eager to see more of his potential as he’s delivered some impressive performances.

The appropriate guy has been selected, and the team has been scouting him for some time, a PBKS official said PTI on Wednesday.

“The player we selected is the appropriate one. We have been scouting him for a while now. The PBKS official said, “He is a 32-year-old Chhattisgarh player who was a member of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2022 season.

“Reports are confusing him with a 19-year-old cricketer with the same name.” One of the eight original IPL teams, Punjab Kings (previously known as Kings XI Punjab) is owned by Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman, Preity Zinta, and Karan Paul. The squad has yet to win an IPL championship.
