After purchasing in HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries, the Sensex rises 358 points

<p>The benchmark stock indexes, Sensex and Nifty, saw a recovery of nearly 0.5 cent on Thursday due to purchases in index mainstays, Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank.</p>

<p>The 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 70,865.10, up 358.79 points, or 0.51 percent.</p>
<p>The barometer started out lower and dropped to 69,920.39, or 0.83 percent, a further 585.92 points.</p>
<p>However, the afternoon session saw the markets find their winning momentum, rising 452.4 points, or 0.64 percent, to 70,958.71.</p>
<p>To reach 21,255.05., the Nifty increased by 104.90 points, or 0.50 percent.</p>
<p>It reached a high of 21,288.35 and a low of 20,976.80 throughout the day.</p>
<p>Prior to ending drastically down by more than 1% on Wednesday, both major indexes had reached record high levels during intraday trading.</p>
<p>The top gainers amongst the Sensex companies were Tata Steel, Power Grid, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Reliance Industries, NTPC, State Bank of India, and Bharti Airtel.</p>
<p>Among the leading laggards were Mahindra & Mahindra, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, and HCL Tech.</p>
<p>Shanghai and Hong Kong closed in the black, while Seoul and Tokyo finished down in the Asian markets.</p>
<p>The trading on European markets was negative. US stock markets had a decrease on Wednesday.</p>
<p>The benchmark for world oil, Brent crude, increased by 0.33 percent to USD 79.96 a barrel.</p>
<p>Based on exchange statistics, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold off stocks worth Rs 1,322.08 crore on Wednesday.</p>
<p>On Wednesday, the BSE benchmark fell 930.88 points, or 1.30 percent, to end at 70,506.31.</p>
<p>To reach 21,150.15, the Nifty dropped 302.95 points, or 1.41 percent.</p>
