“Awaiting Complete Verification”: PTF Head about India’s Davis Cup involvement in Pakistan

In order to compete in the Davis Cup match in Islamabad, players and officials from the All-India Tennis Association (AITA) must still be confirmed, according to the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) on Saturday.

The Islamabad Sports Complex will host the World Group 1 play-off match on February 3 and 4.

“A list of 11 officials and 7 players who will be traveling to Islamabad to complete their visas has been supplied to us by the AITF. However, we have yet to get confirmation of their actual arrival.

PTF President Saleem Saifullah said, “They (AITA) have stated they will send it (confirmation) once they get clearance from their government to travel to Pakistan.”

Anil Jain, the president of the organization, and Anil Dhupar, its secretary, were among the officials and athletes on the list that the AITA submitted, according to Saifullah.

Along with seven other players, “the list also includes their captain Rohit Rajpal,” he said.

Regarding the team’s trip to Pakistan, the AITA had consulted the Sports Ministry, according to a December 26 PTI story from New Delhi.

According to Saifullah, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) would declare the Davis Cup match forfeited and give the hosts all of the points if the AITA failed to deliver the final arrival confirmation by the deadline.

When the Indian Davis Cup team visited Pakistan in 1964, SP Misra, Akhtar Ali, and Premjit Lall assisted the visitors in winning the tie 4-0 at Lahore.

Nonetheless, Pakistan and India were paired against one another in 2019, with the match taking place in the neighboring country.

However, the AITA was able to move it to Kazakhstan, a neutral location, on that occasion, citing political unrest between the two nations.

Aisam ul Haq Qureishi, the team’s best player, will lead Pakistan this time. Muhammad Abid, Barkatullah, Aqeel Khan, and Muhammad Shoaib will follow.
