Sakshi and Bajrang anticipate further protests one day after the WFI ban was removed

Olympic medallists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia today claimed that Sanjay Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India, had used dishonest tactics to ask the United World Wrestling (UWW) to remove the federation’s ban. He also vowed to relaunch their campaign against the organization.

The temporary suspension was removed by the UWW on Tuesday.

Last year, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi, and Bajrang staged a demonstration seeking the arrest of former WFI chairman Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on charges of abusing women grapplers sexually.

“We learned yesterday that Sanjay Singh had worked with UWW to arrange for the suspension to be removed. In a video, Sakshi said, “Brij Bhushan and Sanjay Singh have done all in their power to demonstrate that they are beyond the law.

In his online video message, Bajrang reiterated the same attitude. “A few days ago, despite Brij Bhushan’s declaration that no one from his family would ever hold a position in wrestling administration, his son was elected president of the UP wrestling organization. He claimed, “The government had pledged that neither Brij Bhushan nor any of his family or allies would control the sport.

In response to a question on the most recent events outside of this year’s Chess Olympiad torch hand-off ceremony, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said, “We will let you know what we will do.”
