Here at the Bengaluru Open, Indian Davis Cupper Ramkumar Ramanathan stunned first seed Luka Nardi with an incredible comeback to go to the quarterfinals. In their pre-quarterfinal encounter, Ramkumar—a wildcard entrant—overcame the Italian 1-6 6-4 6-4 in little over two hours.

When the match started, Nardi broke the serve. Ramkumar’s higher-ranked opponent was accurate with his first serve and groundstrokes, and he was unable to muster any type of resistance. Ramanathan just about made it over 50% of his first serves, whilst Nardi landed 86% of them.

Ramkumar, however, seemed to have completely changed as a player in the second set, engaging Nardi in rallies more successfully and using the deeper parts of the court to keep the Italian confined to the baseline.

Ramkumar also become more zippy with his first and second serves. Nardi found it difficult to return Ramkumar’s serves, which often exceeded the 200 km mark. Nardi’s game started to suffer from frustration as he started to often make careless mistakes.
