Based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon narrates the tale of the Targaryen dynasty in the made-up nation of Westeros. The show centers on the Targaryens’ reign after the unification of the Seven Kingdoms and is set over 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Fans can look forward to seeing a number of well-known actors return in the upcoming second season, including Rhys Ifans, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, and Matthew Needham. Freddie Fox, Simon Russell Beale, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim are the latest cast members.

The first teaser for the forthcoming season was released in December 2023, giving viewers a preview of what to expect. There were several exciting sequences in the preview that highlighted the growing hostilities between the Hightowers and the Targaryens.

Ten episodes made up the first season of House of the Dragon, which ran from August 21 to October 23, 2022. Just one week after its debut, the show’s HBO record-breaking ratings led to a second season renewal.

On April 11, 2023, filming for the second season got underway at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios. Production continued unaffected by the SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes that broke out during shooting since the scripts were finished in advance.

As the tale of the Targaryen dynasty is continued in House of the Dragon, viewers can anticipate another thrilling season.
