She was included in Forbes India’s 30 under 30 list earlier this year, which honors 30 “trailblazers and disruptors” under 30 for their achievements in respective fields. Three actors—Rashmika Mandanna, Radhika Madan, and Aditi Dot—made the list this year.

Mandanna portrayed Geetanjali in Animal back in December. Despite being a box office success, Animal received a lot of backlash for its sexist themes. Mandanna sent a long letter on X (formerly Twitter) defending her persona. She called Geetanjali “pure, real, unfiltered, strong and raw” in her article, but she also said that she sometimes “would question some of Gitanjali’s actions” when they were being filmed.

The Pushpa and Geetha Govindam actress discussed a range of topics during her speech on International Women’s Day. Mandanna expressed optimism while discussing the strides society is making in the direction of gender equality, stating, “As time goes on, societal conventions are also changing for the better. Women need to always be involved in the progress that is being made. They have the power to transform society. Furthermore, the generational cycle never ends. As we age and the following generation becomes younger, the conventions or changes we bring about in society will become more antiquated. According to Pinkvilla, the actress said, “I firmly believe that change needs to come from within and has to start from home.”

Mandanna said, “No,” when asked whether she believed that we were still a long way from experiencing gender equality in society. We aren’t that far apart now, I guess. We’ve succeeded and are doing well. Since women dominate almost every industry and profession, they serve as role models for those women who want to achieve greatness in life.
