HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (earlier Telangana Rashtra Samithi) with Rs 41 crore donations tops the list of regional parties which received the highest donation in the financial year 2021-22.
Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) recently released a report on donations that were declared to the Election Commission of India by the political parties.Under the Representation of the People Act, all political parties have to file a report providing details of contributions over 20,000 from any person in a particular financial year to avail 100 per cent tax exemption. ADR revealed that the total amount of donations declared by 26 regional parties analysed was Rs 190 crore from 5,100 donations.The top five parties which declared the highest donations in the financial year 2021-22 were BRS, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Janata Dal (United), Samajwadi Party and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress. Out of these parties, BRS, AAP, SP and YSRC declared an increase in their donations, while JD(U) declared a decrease in the donations in comparison to the financial year 2020-21.As far as the total amount of donations is concerned, BRS leads the charts with 14 donations, followed by AAP which received Rs 38 crore from 2,619 donations. JD(U) received Rs 33 crore, the third highest among the regional parties. Akhilesh Yadav’s SP and YSRC declared total donations at Rs 30 crore and Rs 20 crore respectively, as per details submitted by these parties to the ECI.Ten regional parties that include BRS and YSRC together received 45 donations worth Rs 50 lakh and above in 2021-22, while 23 out of the top 45 donations were given by Prudent Electoral Trust to AAP, Shiromani Akali Dal, BRS, SP and YSRC.YSRC also saw the maximum percentage increase in their income from donations between 2020-21 and 2021-22, the ADR report said.
