<p>Against England, Sarfaraz Khan’s outstanding half-century on the second day of the current fifth Test in Dharamsala dashed their dreams of a comeback. After losing Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in rapid succession, it was his third half-century in Test cricket that spearheaded India’s response in the second session. <p>At first, Sarfaraz was cautious, particularly after Ben Stokes dropped him off his own bowling for the second wicket. He felt so confident after hitting two boundaries against Tom Hartely that he didn’t think twice to take on the more experienced Mark Wood in the 76th over, producing some stunning smashes that bore a striking resemblance to the iconic ramp shot of the great Sachin Tendulkar.</p>
<p>After being thrashed, Wood was obviously upset as he attempted to get under the Indian batter’s skin. Sarfaraz was well within the crease for the next dot ball, but the Englishman attempted to quickly kick the ball onto the stumps. Although it missed the wickets, Wood was seen muttering a few things before returning to his bowling position.</p>
<p>Sarfaraz greeted Wood with a boundary and a six in his next over, demonstrating how horribly the strategy flopped. Sarfaraz reached his half-century after hitting two more boundaries while batting 43.</p>
<p>Shoaib Bashir got his man shortly after the tea break, ending his promising innings. Sarfaraz attempted to play the English off-spinner with an open bat face and guided the ball to Joe Root at first slip, despite the English bowler’s shorter length.</p>
<p>Ben Stokes, who had not bowled in Test cricket for nine months, destroyed Rohit Sharma with the first ball. After England failed to win the morning session, the captain of England ultimately made the decision to roll his arm over in a match scenario. To get rid of Rohit’s off-stump, he delivered a peach that seamed away a little from decent length. India was reduced to 279 for three when James Anderson bowled Gill with a stunning seaming back in the next over.</p>
<p>However, Sarfaraz and rookie southpaw Devdutt Padikkal made sure the hosts never ran out of runs. At tea, they raised the score to a dominant 376 for 3, as India increased their advantage from 158 runs in the first inning.</p>
